My Alexa Ranking..
Published by BloggerMom on Nov 2, 2007 at 10:38 AMWhen I first began putting up posts...I honestly has no idea what Alexa was but everyone in the blogoshpere was talking about their Alexa ranking.
Digging more info. I found out that Alexa Internet, Inc. is a California-based subsidiary company of Amazon.com that is best known for operating a website that provides information on the web traffic to other websites. Alexa collects information from users who have installed an "Alexa Toolbar," allowing them to provide statistics on web site traffic, as well as lists of related links. Without further adieu I went ahead and got myself the Alexa toolbar and saw that my blog was ranked 3,159,519 and it was not even deemed worth of collecting stats since it was not in the first 1,000,000.
45 days later, today - 2 Nov 07, I find my ranking to have risen to 2,141,896. Have overtaken little over a million others. I am very excited and hope to keep updating this blog regularly to get within the first million pages soon.

With all the information shared here I can't see a reason why shouldn't we have a good Alexa ranking.
try using compete.com and trends.google.com, they're very similiar to the alexa toolbar and pretty good
How important it is to get the ranking in Alexa. I am new to all this, even I came across it. But I don't have much idea about this. Why people give so much importance to Alexa???

Alexa Ranking is determined by whenever someone stupid enough to install Alexa's spyware toolbar visits your site. The toolbar is considered spyware.

Alexa Ranking is one of the best ranking system of site after Google PR.It is totally depends on site traffic. As increase in SERP's will drive more traffic, and thus will increase your Alexa ranks.
I've read that alexa can be extremely inaccurate if you aren't in the first 100,000 sites.
The closer you get to first place the more accurate it gets. I have sites that have 100 uniques a day and one is 300,000 alexa and the other is 800,000 so it's all over the place :)
